In truth, it is very easy to paint a perfect picture on social media. Many people have developed a mask to disguise their true feelings and hide the challenges they may be facing. This often makes us feel like other people won’t understand. Or may judge our issues because they do not experience any themselves. However, this is far from the truth.

Everyone experiences hardships personally and in relationships. Reaching out for relationship counselling is a great way to understand just how common your concerns might be. It is also a great start on a journey towards a healthier and happier relationship.

What is a healthy relationship?

While everyone has their own idea of a healthy and happy relationship. All relationships are ultimately based on three key pillars:

  • Strong connection
  • Good communication
  • Solid foundation of trust

When conflict arises in a relationship, it is most commonly caused by a misunderstanding between partners in one of these three areas.

When misunderstandings turn into hurt or betrayal. It can be difficult to regain trust or find a way back to how things were before in your relationship. You may find yourself carrying negative feelings constantly. While also having the same arguments without coming to a resolution.

When should I seek help with my relationship?

All relationships experience conflict, and challenges, and require hard work to get through the difficult times. Relationship Counselling FAQs

Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee we can help you save your relationship.

However, what we can do is assist you and your partner through identifying negative patterns and behaviours, as well as facilitate honest and open communication. From here, we can help you effectively move forward.

If your desire is to save your relationship, couples therapy is one of the best methods to heal your past and move forward. If moving forward with your relationship is ultimately not what you desire, we can work together to ease the pain and challenges involved in separation.

Most often, couples seek relationship counselling when significant hurt has already transpired and pain has been carried for a long period of time. Sometimes it’s not possible for the relationship to recover, however, if a couple is able to work through past pain and hurt we can create a stronger and more resilient relationship.

The value a couple may get out of relationship counselling is dependent on the level of commitment and openness to finding a healthy way forward together.

This is a common question we are asked as it is a natural response to prepare for an emotional journey like relationship counselling. It can be helpful to take some  time and consider these questions prior to your first session:

  • What are your main concerns?
  • How long have these issues been a problem in your relationship?
  • What have you and your partner done to try to resolve these issues?
  • What do you hope to achieve from couples therapy?

It can be helpful to write notes in a journal and bring it with you to your sessions.

People seek relationship counselling for a wide variety of reasons:

  • Ineffective communication
  • Infidelity
  • Financial stress
  • Illness
  • Mental health issues
  • Extended family
  • Parenting issues
  • Unresolved conflict
  • Domestic violence

A good relationship requires different things from different people. Most would agree that a healthy, loving relationship should have respect, companionship, mutual emotional support, sexual expression, economic security, and sometimes childrearing. Understanding each partner’s wants, needs, and desires in these areas can close any gaps you may be experiencing.

Ultimately, most people will want different things and communicating to each other and finding ways to move forward is key to a successful relationship to work.

Relationship support and understanding to help you get back on track
