Family therapy or family counselling is a form of psychotherapy designed to help families and those in close relationships to better understand and address issues that cause distress or conflict. Some examples of these issues can include major life changes, loss of a loved one, or mental health problems. Family Therapy can also assist with your daily challenges and/or environment.
Families are invariably a source of love, support and encouragement. But sometimes life events or opposing personality types get in the way and lead to heightened stress and/or additional pressures. Sometimes this can be difficult to navigate on their own. That’s where we come in. We help facilitate the differences within the family. Each member will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and feelings about the issue, and their hopes for change and/or ideal outcome.
Family therapy is about relationships and the patterns that develop within them that may lead families to struggle. We help work through those challenges and observe patterns of interaction between family members, including those that are healthy and productive and those that are “toxic” or not so helpful. Our job is to help you change those patterns so you can create an environment that works for your family and leaves you feeling closer and more connected as a whole.
Having all members of the family present for therapy is ideal. However, when that is not possible or a family member is unavailable, we can create a plan that best suits and accommodates the family and/or situation. There are various ways to support a family with therapy.
Through family therapy, we can:
- Learn new and more positive ways of communication
- Develop greater understanding and empathy for each other
- Assist with solving family problems
- Bring families closer and more connected
- Build appreciation and respect for each other
- Repair connections and strengthen relationships
- Learn new skills and ways to manage stress and anger
- Strengthen values and create healthy boundaries
- Create a more supportive and caring environment
- Develop a team approach to managing stressors
- Reduce frustrations, misunderstandings and conflict
- Help each member cope better overall
With family therapy, we provide support and tools to help you find your way back to a stronger family relationship with healthier ways to cope in the future.
Family counselling is often useful in helping families cope with these difficult and often evolving situations to help improve their relationships and maintain connections.

Kylie helped the both of us pinpoint a lot of the causes of our anger, and made us both aware of better communication skills to use. I can’t say enough of how happy I am with Kylie’s therapy, and things between my wife and I have improved to the point of feeling like we’re courting again!”
“Kylie gave us the tools to resolve our disputes in a manner that is loving and respectful. Her approach is kind and understanding. Over a few months our marriage was happier and more loving than it had been in years. Thank you Kylie for your guidance and support. “

Since our sessions with you we have been making more effort to talk more frequently and do more things together.
For the first time in a long time we were able to go out without our kids and enjoy each other’s company!”
