Feeling overwhelmed, confused and/or unhappy?

Struggling to manage your situation or cope with difficult feelings on your own?

Your emotional and mental wellbeing is important. We all go through periods of happiness and sadness. Sometimes your feelings are caused by a particular circumstance, such as:

  • Bereavement,
  • Trauma, childhood issues,
  • Negative/toxic relationships,
  • Illness

However, other times it might be harder to pinpoint exactly what is making you feel sad. You may feel as though your life has become uncomfortable, difficult, or even intolerable, perhaps without a tangible reason causing this emotional change. You may also be looking at those around you and wondering why everyday life seems so much harder for you.

However, these thoughts are actually more common than you may think and seeking help with a professional counsellor is a beneficial way to gain clarity as to why you may be feeling this way, and how you can move forward to a happier state of mind.

What is Individual counselling and psychotherapy?

Counsellors and psychotherapists are mental health professionals that utilise interpersonal relationships to support clients in developing self-understanding and deriving change in their lives.

Although Counselling and Psychotherapy overlap considerably, there are also recognised differences. While the work of Counsellors and Psychotherapists with clients may be of considerable depth, the focus of Counselling is more likely to be on specific problems, changes in life adjustments and fostering clients’ well-being. Psychotherapy is more concerned with the restructuring of the personality or self and the development of insight.

Do I need to have experienced a traumatic experience to seek counselling?

No, not at all. Many people seek counselling to better understand and heal from a traumatic experience or event. However, many people access counselling services to better manage difficult feelings or confusing situations.

In a fast-paced world with family commitments, work stressors or social pressures, life can become overwhelming. This can make it more difficult to handle day-to-day tasks, or regulate feelings and emotions. Seeking help from a professional counsellor can assist you in developing better coping skills, balancing your life and managing the stressors you may be experiencing.

How can counselling and psychotherapy help me?

Counselling and psychotherapy sessions provide a safe space to explore your concerns, feelings, and emotions. There is no judgement and you will be respected and valued throughout the process.

Together, during these sessions we can:

  • Identify stressors
  • Help you gain clarity
  • Find effective ways to cope
  • Develop new goals

Most importantly we can set you on a path and in a direction to being mentally healthier and happier.

You WILL get through this difficult time. Acknowledging there’s an issue is a great first step.
