Individual Counsellor

Welcome. My name is Kristine.  I am a registered counsellor who works with adults and teens to help them cope with difficult life stressors and build meaningful lives, whatever that may look like or be for them.  Since entering the counselling industry, I have had the honour of working with people while they navigate through experiences of domestic violence, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, and anxiety and depression.  I truly believe that with the right support, everyone can embrace life and all its complexities.

What inspired me to become a Counsellor?

Like many other professionals in the industry, I was first drawn to counselling from my own life experiences.  I was introduced to professional help at a young age after suffering my own deep personal loss. Through these difficult times, I was very supported and ultimately learned more about myself and my abilities to cope.  Over the years, I developed an interest in how the relationship between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours shape our worldview.  This interest led me to complete a degree in psychological science and counselling and is the reason I continue to study in this field.

My Approach

I work from a person-centred approach, meaning that I believe everybody is the expert in their own lives and everyone has the potential for personal growth.  As a mental health professional, I have learned that no two clients are the same, thus the choice of therapeutic modality (or integration of a various modalities) is catered to each client as an individual.  I like to introduce other therapeutic modalities to sessions that I believe can help my clients, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), to name a few.

I am committed to continuous professional development to ensure I stay informed on the latest industry findings and trainings; ensuring I can best serve my clients.
